Something Borrowed is soooo GOOD!! I can't put it down...well unless I have to...just got it over the weekend and started reading it Sunday afternoon....trying to finish this book during my lunch break of 45 mins each day...and before going to sleep every night...almost done...but I fell asleep reading it last night tho...probably won't get a chance to read it tonight cuz Tuesday is my tv night (when I'm not doing overtime...I hope I don't have to stay tonight....) Gilmore Girls at 7pm & if I miss it or want to watch it again, it's on at 10pm on Global...then I pass the time between 8pm and 9pm watching re-runs of CSI (the original of course)...then it's So You Think You Can Dance at 9pm!!!

Anyways, I found a few more books I wanna read so I'll have to make another trip to Chapters...although I may borrow Something Blue and read that before buying it...who knows...I may end up doing something crazy like buying it before reading it...but if it's as good as Something Borrowed, then it'll be worth it....also on the library's waiting list for Baby Proof...then if I like that one too, I gotta wait till it comes out on paperback and get that...3 other books I wanna get are by Cara Lockwood: I Do (but I Don't), I Did (But I Wouldn't Now) and Dixieland Sushi.

As soon as I'm done Something Borrowed, I'm gonna read Testing Kate in my free time...since I gotta start studying for that French final coming up in about 2 weeks...eekkk!! then I gotta read The Kite Runner, as it comes highly recommended by a good friend of mine.

On a side note, I would love Heather's job...that way I'll get paid to read & pick my faves...

why...

The theme for today's blog is "why...?"

1) Yesterday: If I'm beginning to back into a parking space and I don't see any cars moving (ie. drivers pulling out or looking for a spot), then I'll keep backing in. And if someone is pulling out and see that I'm backing in, why would they just honk but still back their car out of the spot when they SEE THAT I'M STILL BACKING IN? and then act like it's my fault...ok I admit it's my mistake for not noticing that this person is pulling out of their spot (which is across from the spot I'm backing into) because I was busy concentrating on backing into my spot...but i don't get why if this person sees that I'm backing in and instead of letting me finish backing in, this person backs out of their spot and then stops when neither of our cars can move any further...so one of us obviously has to let the other person go....and seeing as I can't back in any further without the front of my car touching the back of this person's car....it would make sense for this person to go forward back into their spot first...or at least that's what I think...so I'm sitting in my car and making hand gestures indicating that I can't move if this person doesn't move their car out of the way first...so after a couple of times of me gesturing that I can't move my car unless this person wants me to hit their car and this person just keeps looking at me waiting for me to move my car...this person finally gets that there's no space for my car to move anywhere and moves forward a bit back into their spot...so by this point I was so frustrated with this person, that I just stopped reversing and went forward out of my spot to let this person get out of theirs first...but apparently this person needed a lot of room to get out so I had to keep moving my car forward before they were able to back their car out...grrr

2) This morning: Why do public transportation commuters insist on standing at the front of the bus and being crammed in like sardines in a can instead of moving to the back of the bus where NO ONE is standing?? And then I say "excuse me" with each step I make so that I can get past the "sardines" and stand at the back of the bus, ppl give me dirty looks...I mean I'd understand the reason behind the dirty looks if I was just rudely shoving my way through...but I was't...I can't even count how many times "excuse me" came out of my mouth this morning?? maybe I'm from another planet or something cuz I really don't understand....

what am i...a technician now?!?

I knew I should've went out for lunch...grr!! So I was eating lunch in the office...and out of nowhere one of the counsels (let's call her counsel A) come & ask if I can fix the paper jam in the copier...I was reluctant to have my lunch interrupted so I asked if no one else can fix it...I even mentioned that the screen shows where the jam is & how to get it unjammed...but no, apparently no one else could & they really needed to get something copied for court...so I went & was baffled at how no one could figure out where the jams were...it was quite simple actually....I just followed the instructions on the screen and TA DA!! no more paper jam...and while I was there, another counsel (Counsel B) asked the lady (let's refer to her as X*) if there is anything he can do to help...and she said "Well if someone can help bind it would help"...and guess whose name popped into his mind first...ME!! But counsel A told B that I was in the middle of lunch so Counsel B asked the remaining person in the room to do it...after that I was able to go back to lunch....for like 3 mins...then Counsel B comes and asks me to do a quick formatting job for him...so I went cuz I felt sorry for the team of counsels since they had to get the most incompetent assistant (ie. X) to help them cuz the 3rd assistant and I were both on lunch...(we usually take shifts for lunch...but I had to delay mine cuz I had to finish some stuff for another case...so that's why 2 of us were on lunch at the same time...and plus I worked almost 12 hrs OT yesterday...started at noon & left slightly before midnight...and X didn't come in to help...although I consider her not being there a BIG HELP...and the only thing X had to do today was make the copies & bind them...it's not difficult so I don't know why she needs help with someone so simple...)....so I went & did the formatting then came back to continue my lunch...about 10-15 mins later, a 3rd counsel (Counsel C) comes and asks if I'm busy...so I told her that I was kinda still on my lunch break...so she was like "ok, no worries..I'll find someone else to do it"...and guess who finally got her just desserts (it's about time she has to multitask like the rest of us...and feel the pressure of having different counsels coming at u with different tasks...although all she has to do is make copies of what Counsel C gives her which wasn't much cuz I saw the size of it...it was like 10-15 pages...so it would be easy to put it through the copier & set it for the # of copies required & select whatever extra function was required such as stapling or hole-punching...and let the copier do its job while she continues binding)...the only reason I know is because she had to walk past me to borrow the other section's copier...I thought it was cuz someone else was using it...but apparently, it's cuz the copier jammed again...and the only thing she did was go & get someone to fix it...why couldn't she do it? and I have no idea how the paper got jammed where it was...it was in the back of the machine & between the parts that could slide out of the machine...but unfortunately the entire component couldn't be removed...so we eventually had to use an umbrella to drag the piece of paper towards the front & I had to reach in & remove it...

and then shortly after that X had to borrow the other section's copier AGAIN...I didn't think anything of it cuz it was like 5-10 mins before court was in session so I thought people were busy trying to get last minute copying done...but OMG I didn't know how much of a BITCH she is until now!! (I'm sorry...I cannot censor it this time...she really is one!!) after the counsels have left for court...I went to the print room to check our paper inventory...& saw that the copier screen indicated another jam...so stupid me went & looked...found 10 pieces of paper in 5 different areas...then there was this one little piece stuck in this area...no one had the tools to get it out...so I went to the last person who was making copies...I saw that she had her coat on & was getting ready to leave for the day (& this was at 2:30) asked X "is the copier was not working again?"...she was like "yeah it wasn't working when I went to use it 10 mins ago"...so I asked her to come with me to the print room & showed her the amount of paper I found jammed in the copier...& pointed to that one little piece that would require a Xerox tech to come in & remove...so she VERY RELUCTANTLY went & called for a technician...then she was like "K I called Xerox & the tech should be here before 5...& I'm leaving now"...how FRIGGIN' IRRESPONSIBLE is she?!?! she knew that the copier wasn't working...but she didn't say anything about it or call for a technician to come fix it...and she was going to leave the office without mentioning it to anyone??!! WTF!!! Does she not realize or care that she's not the only one in the office who uses the copier?!?!? WHAT A SELFISH BITCH!! AARRGGGHH!!!

*I referred to her as X cuz I just want her gone & out of my sight (X'ed out)...get it? =)

Jarhead

I can't believe I forgot about this movie...I watched it last night on TMN..and yeah it may be kinda sad & that I have no life if I'm sitting at home on a Saturday night...but I needed the time to relax before coming into work today...but OMG! Jarhead is amazing!!! Although it may have something to do with Jake Gyllenhaal...damn! he was hot!! did he bulk up for the movie or was he always like that? although I am wondering if he got a body double for the butt shots...and omg!! i think he was wearing a g-string at one point in the movie...for some reason, I couldn't picture him stripping down for a movie...since the last movie I remember seeing with him in it is The Day After Tomorrow...and that was a great movie too...so great that I ended up buying the DVD...ookk back to the actual movie and not the nice bodies the guys had...haha...the movie was pretty good...although there were some sad parts in it...when u see the innocent victims...makes me wonder why ppl have to resort to war...

and now to go completely off topic...u know what bugs me...when ppl keep trying to talk to u when you're busy...grr that's annoying...it's like excuse me i'm trying to concentrate could u please talk to me later...

at work today...yay O/T!!

so I'm at work today...a Sunday...I've been here since noon and just now have a bit of down time to breathe & drink lots of water to rehydrate...so here I am blogging...

Went to see The Departed yesterday even though I heard it wasn't good...so I went in expecting it not to be good...but it wasn't bad...I mean if you compare it to Infernal Affairs then yeah it's definitely no competition compared to Infernal Affairs...The Departed has a lot of big names but I found the beginning really boring...I was debating whether or not I should walk out...they spent too much time on Jack Nicholson's character...but then I decided to stay & watch...You know how there are movies you can watch over and over and not get bored? Well I find Infernal Affairs is one of those...The Departed not...even tho the general storyline was the same...there were things that were changed in The Departed...well obviously the ending but the main thing was they merged 2 female characters from Infernal Affairs to 1 in The Departed...but all in all, I found that it was an ok movie...

Grr...some ppl!!

Ok...everyone at the office is connected to more than one printer...so if one printer is not working properly, wouldn't it make sense to simply use another printer to print? it makes sense to me...it would be the logical thing to do wouldn't it? i think so. however, the same assistant that I've been commenting on in previous entries apparently did not come to the same conclusion to use another printer...rather, she simply said that the printer is acting up so she can't print what was requested of her...so the person who gave her the task came to explain the situation to me...i gave this individual a puzzled look when i was informed that this assistant couldn't do it because one of the printers is down...then i explained to this individual that this assistant could simply use another printer because we're all connected to more than one printer...and that she can do so by selecting the printer after she selects File>Print or Ctrl + P...this individual sounded surprised when told that she could use another printer...which leads to the theory that she really didn't want to help so she simply used this printer problem as an excuse not to do it...o she does keep me amused...

one of life's greatest mysteries...or at least one of mine

i'm not sure if this happens to anyone else but...whenever i go shopping for something in particular but then end up not getting what i was planning on getting but something else completely different. For example, this weekend i was looking for nice long-sleeved tops for work and nice flats, but at the end of the day, I ended up with NEITHER of what i went shopping for and instead got 2 pairs of pants (neither of which were jeans so I was happy), a plain v-neck top in some dark shade of green (i'm horrible at differentiating the varying shades of colours), and a nice thick-strapped top (and apparently i'm also horrible at describing clothes)...but i did manage to pick up the Gilmore Girls 6th Season DVD set & Sarah Brightman's "Time to Say Goodbye" CD...

so yesterday I ended up watching 3 episodes of Gilmore Girls with French subtitles to learn some everyday language...then watched part of The Phantom of the Opera 2004 movie in french (audio & subtitles)...boy do they speak really fast...but it was fun attempting to sing along with the songs in french...and i can't wait till tomorrow night cuz it's the SEASON PREMIERE for Gilmore Girls 7th season...yay!!!

Brad vs. Tom...

"Move over Tom, this Mission's for Brad"...I personally think Brad Pitt's hotter than Tom Cruise so I can honestly say I definitely wouldn't mind if Brad Pitt replaced Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible...I mean hello? have u seen his body?? that man is gorgeous!!!

My Journey into the french language...

newayz, today's my 3rd class of basic conversational french...it's been interesting...I can now introduce myself & others, say hello & goodbye in more than 1 way, and order food & drinks at a cafe...watched the princess bride with french subtitles the night before...had to keep pausing to take notes of how to say things I may use...and I was gonna watch The Day After Tomorrow with french audio & english subtitles last night...but I got sidetracked...I gotta say I love my DVD collection since I can use them to improve my french...and I did a little research online and listened to clips of the songs by popular French singers...came across Mylene Farmer and she's pretty good vocally...so I ended up borrowing her cd's from the library to listen...also managed to find a website with the actual lyrics and english translation so this should make learning french a bit easier...that's what I hope anyways...

more randomness...movie, POTO tix

well I'm at work now and it's pretty dead here so I'm gonna keep myself busy by posting...anyways went to see Step Up over the weekend...it was such a predictable teeny-bopper movie..but at least it got me out of being bored out of my mind and stuck at home...the music in the movie was awesome tho so I ended up going straight to the music store right after the movie and buying the soundtrack...

so my friend and I are trying to think of some special occasion/event that we can dress up for...cuz for some reason we're dying to wear these black dresses that we got (mine from Le Chateau...love that store cuz things actually fit me!! altho I will find out at my doctor's appointment if I was successful in my attempts to gain weight...i'm gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope so cuz it's frustrating not being able to gain weight...plus it's difficult for me to find things that fit & look good)...it's strange for the two of us to WANT to dress up cuz we're the least girly of our group of friends...but now we want to wear them for something before it gets cooler...

on another note, I can't wait till next month when tickets for POTO goes on sale!! I have to go see it again...it's going to be great...expensive but more than worth it in my opinion...

newayz, going shopping with the girls this weekend...i gotta have more self control about how much I spend...but it's difficult to put something back when u find something really nice and fits great...

things at work are pretty much the same...I don't know how she does it but that lady always finds a new way to annoy us...it's her attitude that just pisses me off...she's an assistant but she acts like she's the boss and treats me like I'm her assistant...so now I'm just being polite to her while refusing to do her work for her without actually telling her no...go me...

random rambles...nothing special

Been a busy bee since I last posted...where do I start?

Well last Saturday I met up with a uni friend and we watched Crank...I went cuz of Jason Statham who was Handsome Rob in Italian Job & was also in Transporters 2 (haven't seen the first one so I'm not sure if he was in it)...the trailer didn't really appeal to me but when my friend suggested it I went & read the synopsis...and it sounded interesting...and it was actually pretty funny...although neither of us really liked the ending...

Last Sunday a hs friend of mine got her first & probably ONLY tattoo...it's so small but it costs so much...$100 for not even 10 mins of the artist's time...but I guess it's worth it considering the professionalism and cleanliness of the place. But still...the place I went to was professional & clean & my smallest one costed around $60 and it was bigger and took more than 10 mins...but I guess that's the difference between small town and big city...then we went shopping cuz her mom gave me a "mission" to help her find something appropriate to wear for her presentation...my friend's entire closet probably only had a couple of business casual tops...everything else was casual so nothing appropriate for a presentation...so we went to a couple of stores and finally found a pair that she liked and fitted nicely....then we went around dt and checked out a few bakeries to pass the time before going for seafood dinner...

Had family obligations on Labour Day...had dimsum with the family (hmm...is it just me or did that sound like i was in the mafia?? haha)...newayz...I was kinda surprised at how easy-going everyone was this time...we're not close to each other....only get together for special occasions...that could be due to one family being pretty much anti-social...they would just stay home every weekend...my two older cousins have actually chosen to stay home because they didn't feel like changing out of their house clothes...my grandma made a comment about 2 weeks ago that this was getting out of hand...since they're in their mid to late 20's...and I would think this is the time to socialize & make new friends...

So on the last Sunday of August I managed to get my eldest cousin & our 12 year old cousin out to the movies....we watched Snakes on a Plane...it was actually better than I expected...although I have to admit I went in not expecting it to be good...and only went for Samuel L. Jackson.

That Friday a couple of friends and I went to visit our hs friend (the one mentioned above)...and we had dinner at Lucy's Seafood Restaurant...the food was good...I totally recommend trying it if you're gonna be around any of the locations...

Now I'm just trying to find ppl to go see The Covenant with me...I'm already going to see The Black Dahlia...there seems to be so many movies coming out that I really want to see...I want to see The Wicker Man but I'm not sure if it's a good idea for me to watch it in theatres...lights off & surround sound...I'm pretty sure it'll give me nightmares...I think I'll wait till it comes out on DVD, rent it, and watch it in broad daylight...lol...

Went for teppanyaki last night...and our chef looked really young...and he seemed kinda shy....but I thought he was kinda cute...haha...I'm sure the ppl who know me were just waiting for me to say that...omg I'm so nervous about tomorrow...I officially start my french class tomorrow...and I'm horrible at learning languages so kinda starting to freak out...to prepare myself & also for a quick review, I borrowed this cassette & book set from the library...and I bought some french vocab & grammar review/self-help books from Chapters...so hopefully I'll be able to keep up and do well enough...anyways this is probably the longest entry I've ever written...so I'm gonna go & get back to work....although right now the office is kinda dead...but I can relax by looking out the window & enjoy the view...see ya!

no chance at grad school...

on another note, before i got the call to go main office, i was considering my chances of going to grad school...so i did a little bit of research at work...and just realized that there is ZERO chance of me getting into grad school cuz my average is not anywhere close to the required minimum...so then instead of having that discourage me from further educating myself, i looked into going to college...& i found this program called "Applied Forensic Investigative Sciences"...seemed interesting...although i'm not sure my b.sc. is equivalent to what is required...but it'd be great if it was...will have to do a bit more research...but i'm gonna keep my fingers crossed & hopefully stay optimistic

Thu, Aug. 17th, 2006, 05:23 pm
soo hungry!!! no time for lunch today...boo

today was sucky...cuz i got a call at 11am from counsel (counsel A from yesterday) at the main office who said he needed me to go up to main office immediately...so after i notified people at the satellite office, i rushed up to main office...he kept adding and changing stuff so that i had to miss lunch today...and then he finally gave me the final version at 3...then i had to get all the exhibits & the affidavit commissioned by another counsel...then made the copies to be filed & served...the thing was the counsel mentioned needing someone to go serve it and such...but i told him that i couldn't do it because i haven't eaten since breakfast at 7am and i just wanted to go home after all the copies were made & cerlox bound...he didn't seem to notice that i didn't have time for lunch so he okay'ed me leaving after i was done....so i finally got to leave the main office at 3:30...then had to head back to the satellite office just to let the staff know that i just finished my task and was leaving early cuz i didn't get time for lunch...i hope tomorrow will be a relaxing day at the office for me...

Wed, Aug. 16th, 2006, 05:36 pm
Felt so important at work today! =)

Wow I didn't know my assistance was so appreciated and wanted...

got a voicemail from my boss this morning and he wanted me to do what he requested right away so I did...then I got an email from a counsel A at the main office requesting my assistance on another case, which required me to make a trip up to the main office....while I was assisting counsel A, another counsel from the satellite office (let's call him counsel B) calls the one from main office and requested that I head back to the satellite office because they needed me to make multiple copies of cd's for electronic disclosure...so as soon as I was done locating the documents counsel A needed, I made copies for him and myself to bring back with me to satellite office, then put all the boxes back in the storage room...and rushed back down to the satellite office...

(the documents that needed to be copied to the cds were previously scanned by yours truly...there were two 4" binders worth of documents)...had to make enough copies of the 2 separate cd's for all parties, then had to do the cover letters (and omg, my boss kept making changes...grr!! not only that but he is supposed to be on holidays so had to send him the electronic copy of each draft, wait for him to look through it, and reply or call back with the changes, then make the changes on my copy and repeat until he was satisfied)...so by the time he was finally satisfied with the FINAL draft...it was 2pm...so I had him sign it and made the copies...and finally got it sent off by courier by 2:10pm...and I finally got to take my lunch...I was sooo HUNGRY...my stomach wouldn't stop growling...

Then had to continue the work given by counsel A...had to draft up an affidavit...that was easy enough cuz he can make whatever changes himself after I sent him the electronic copy...he said it looked good and that he might have more documents for me to pull and add to the affidavit tomorrow...then I can swear it tomorrow....so all in all I felt very important...cuz it seemed like everyone needed me to do something...counsel B actually joked that they need to pay me double cuz of all the responsibilities I have....I'm assisting all the co-counsels from 3 major cases (there's a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 6 co-counsels on each major case I'm assisting on...and around the same range of defence counsels on each case) and then sometimes the other cases of these co-counsels....on top of that I'm in charge of managing the satellite office (supplies, office equipment, water cooler, etc.) and I'm also the "unofficial" receptionist so I deal with all the transferring of alls, couriers, deliveries, etc...so yeah I'm beginning to agree with counsel B on getting a raise...but that's not really up to any of us now is it?? unfortunately for me, nope...too bad for me then eh?...haha

So my days at the office are either completely dead or extremely busy...they both have their pros & cons...if the office was completely dead, then I get to relax but then I'll get bored from just sitting there waiting for 4:30 to come around....if it was extremely busy, the time will fly right by but then I'll be so busy that I won't be able to take my lunch until late (like today)...

Have you ever...

...not wanted to speak to anyone...you just wanted some peace & quiet to yourself...but have someone who just keeps on talking even though you're barely acknowledging them because you have a really bad headache? and you just wanted to ask them to leave you alone...but you really can't cuz it's a coworker and u don't want to do anything to offend this person...so u just feel like your head's gonna explode and u just want this person to shut the h*** up. yeah I've had a couple of these experiences lately...maybe that's one reason why I'm always counting down to the weekend...

Tue, Aug. 15th, 2006, 01:21 pm
counting down to the weekend...again

This is getting bad if I'm already counting down to the weekend everyday I go to work...and I just joined the full time work force last year...how will I survive working full time until I retire...maybe I should get a different job...something that challenges me or something...but then again, I get to relax when it's not busy here...and check my emails or update my blog...so I have to admit I have a pretty good deal here...but then again it does get boring after while of trying to pass the 8 hrs at work (well 7.25 if u don't count lunch)...cuz I can only surf the net for so long until I feel like falling asleep...plus I always have to keep an eye & ear out in case anyone walks by...it does get kinda stressful after doing that for a few hours straight...oh well...

My friend's planning on getting her 1st & probably only tattoo today...I just wish I could go watch cuz it's so fun...it's going to be different not being the only one in my hs group of friends to have a tattoo...but then again I won't seem like such a "bad" girl to others now that someone else will have one too...

Anyways I can't believe I actually ate my lunch in 5 mins...cuz I succumbed to the urge to go to the mall (a 10 min walk) and buy cds...got the new Christina Aguilera double-disc & Nelly Furtado's Loose cd. Then I almost walked into le chateau...the clothes were just calling to me...haha...but I resisted...well mostly cuz I didn't have enough time to shop around and also I was sooo hungry...

Mon, Aug. 7th, 2006, 10:27 pm
Good times at Wasaga!!

Had so much fun at Wasaga today....although getting sunburned wasn't part of the plan. But at least now I can't be said to be pale... =) I'll be all nice and "rosy"...haha. Had fun driving...although I still think that the passing lane should be renamed to "minimum 20+ over speed limit" lane...trip back took less time than the trip up...funny huh?? especially since there was a lot of traffic on the way back...and a lot less traffic this morning...i wonder how that happened...lol...we definitely should do this more often...going to the beach, not getting sunburned...there is one thing i wished was different...less wind would've been nice...so that sand was being blown into my eyes and mouth so often...even though sand is a good exfoliant...so much for checking out guys today...they were either too old or too young...and i just couldn't appreciate the ones that looked our age...anyways i'm beat from being up at 6 to get ready, pack the car, and driving there & back...gonna end this so i can get ready for work tomorrow...oh what fun...i wonder how the transition from beach day to regular work day is gonna go...guess i'll find out tomorrow...till next time.

another example of how the government wastes hard-earned taxpayers' money

Another counsel wanted to send a 9 page document by courier...what a waste of money...I'd understand if it was a 50 page document and she didn't want to keep the fax machine busy but come on, it's 9 pages!! It would also be understandable if the recipient didn't have a fax machine but the recipient is at a major law firm...and not to mention that this isn't the first time that we've faxed something to this recipient....I just kinda looked at her and suggested the fax machine...and her response was "Oh yeah that will do."...sometimes I feel like I'm either working with idiots or I'm just the crazy one who doesn't know what she's talking about. =)
